In loving memory of Richard “Dick” Ellsworth Hoyt, born March 6, 1927 and passed peacefully at Elim Park, Cheshire, CT on Thursday, May 31, 2018, leaving behind his wife of 69 years, Dorothy (Lemerick) and two children, Marsha Hoyt and her husband, Antonio Destefano of Montreal and Jim Hoyt and his wife, Bella Angel Hoyt of Michigan.

He was predeceased by his parents, Marshall and Mabel Hoyt and also his sister, Marion Hoyt Akiyama. Dick is survived by his brother, David Hoyt and his wife, Rose of Ohio; his nieces, Mary Akiyama Kerns and her husband, Tom, and Dawn Hoyt Bellinger and her husband Scott; his nephew, Daniel Hoyt and his wife, Sarah; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Dick attended local schools in South Norwalk and graduated from Willston Academy in East Hampton, MA in 1945. He served in the US Navy Seabees in 1945, later graduating from the Bridgeport Engineering Institute, Class of 1954. Dick worked at Northeast Utilities as Senior Consultant, Energy management Services until his retirement in 1989.

Continuing a family tradition of helping community progress, Dick was involved in many organizations. He was a Cub Scout Master, Eagle Scout leader and District Chairman for the Boy Scouts of America. He served as a United Way Division Chairman for the towns of Branford, Guilford and Madison. He was President for Tabor Lutheran Church Council in Branford and Head Usher for Elim Park Chapel in Cheshire. He was also a Connecticut Hospice volunteer for thirty years, (1980-2010)

A memorial service will be held in Nelson Hall at Elim Park on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 2PM. Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family.
