NAUGATUCK - Richard A. Robbins, 89, passed away Monday, August 21, 2017 at his home. He was the husband of Lorraine (Buckley) Robbins.
Mr. Robbins was born May 22, 1928 in Williamsport, PA, the son of the late Leon and Ida (Hinkleman) Robbins and brother of Donald Robbins (predeceased). He moved to CT when he was 3 years old where he attended Naugatuck local schools. He proudly served his Country in the United States Marine Corp. from 1946 through 1947 serving in the Pacific. Throughout his years in town he was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, now Grace Lutheran and was active in various veteran associations and the Naugatuck Valley Snow Stormers.
Mr. Robbins worked at US Rubber, as a calendar operator; service man on boot line; and drove tractor trailers. In 1949, he met Lorraine at US Rubber and married in 1950 at St. Mary's Church in Union City. They purchased their home on Mulberry Street and enjoyed 67 years of marriage. After 30 years at US Rubber, the company closed and Mr. Robbins worked for Peter Paul. He retired from Peter Paul in 1985. He enjoyed snowmobiling in NY, ME and Canada as well as Bow Hunting.
Besides his wife of 67 years, he is survived by his daughters Linda Monahan (Robert) of Sun City Center, FL and Robin Tuohy (Michael) of Prospect; his son Eric Robbins (Valerie) of Fort Kent, ME; his grandchildren, Kristy Monahan Hartano (Jimmy), Melissa Monahan Evans (Jason), Kelly Monahan Licht (Udo), Allison Tuohy, Michael C. Tuohy, Kileen Robbins, Nicole Robbins; his great grandchildren Daniel Hartano, Matthew Hartano, Logan Evans, Chloe Maklary, Mackenzi Barrere and other loving family members.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of VITAS Healthcare and Drs. Caporaso and Bowen for their wonderful and compassionate care.
Arrangements - The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 5 to7 at the funeral home with the Naugatuck Veterans Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contribution may be made to the Naugatuck American Legion Post #17, 21 Cedar St, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
