CHESHIRE- Renee Hamilton Caldwell Zimmitti, 71, passed away Sunday, November 10th, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Gary Zimmitti.
Renee was born June 11, 1953, in Waterbury, daughter of the late William and Ruth (Mills) Hamilton. Renee graduated from Cheshire High School in 1971. After high school she attended Quinnipiac College and earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. She subsequently worked as a nurse for the Cheshire Public School System for 30 years and retired in June 2022. Renee loved the beach, traveling to Maine, and spending time with family and friends. Most of all, she loved being a Meme and spending time with her grandchildren. “Thru and Thru, Meme”
In addition to her husband, Renee, leaves behind her son, Gregory Caldwell and his wife, Heather, of Cheshire, and her daughter, Jennifer Caldwell Duffy and her husband, Patrick Duffy III, of Cheshire. She also leaves behind her sister Lori Hamilton Frasco, and her husband, John, and her nephew Johnny, of Prospect. Renee also leaves her behind her stepdaughters’, Amy Wilson (Doug) of Cheshire and Lynn Zimmitti of Meriden, and stepson Gary Zimmitti Jr. of Cheshire. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Patrick & Shawn Duffy, Mason & Jake Caldwell, and Logan & Lily Wilson. Renee also leaves behind many wonderful friends and extended family.
Renee’s family would like to thank all the wonderful care givers at Smilow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Arrangements – A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, November 15, 2024 at St. Bridget of Sweden Parish / St. Bridget Church, 175 Main Street, Cheshire. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Friends may call at The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street, Thursday evening, November 14, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
