WATERBURY- Mrs. Rebecca (Shore) Bess, 91of Waterbury, passed away Friday afternoon Jan. 8, 2010, at the Abbott Terrace Health Center. She was the widow of Meyer Bess.

Mrs. Bess was born in Waterbury, June 9, 1918, a daughter of the late Samuel and Etta (Treibich) Shore and was a lifelong resident of Waterbury. She was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Crosby High School. She first worked a Worth's from 1936 to 1940, and from 1940 until 1953 was employed by Mussler-Liebeskind and then worked for Bedford's from 1953 until her retirement in 1961. She was a member of Beth El Synagogue and a Life member and formerly very active with Hadassah, serving as Treasurer and Secretary. She was the recipient of the "Hands of Healing" award.

She leaves a daughter, Sydel Kugell and her husband Louis of Wolcott and one son, David Bess of West Hartford; one brother, Herman Shore of Longmeadow, Mass.; 3 granddaughters, Sharon Silver of Old Lyme, Joanne Marino, of Newington, and Lori Specter of Wolcott; 4 great-grandchildren, Zachary Cohen, Alison Marino, Danielle Marino, and Jonah Specter.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 10th at 11 am at Hebrew Benefit Cemetery, Stillson Rd., Waterbury. Shiva will be observed at the home of Sydel and Lou Kugell, 244 Clinton Hill Rd, Wolcott on Sunday following the service through Tuesday evening. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave. is in charge of arrangements.
