Mr. Raymond Joseph Donnelly, age 92, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2013 at St Mary's Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Waterbury.
Mr. Donnelly was born on May 31, 1921 in Waterbury, son of the late Rose (Donnelly) Degnan. Ray was educated in local schools and was a proud World War II U.S. Army veteran who served in Germany and stateside from 1942-1946. He worked for the American Brass/Metal Hose for 41 years advancing from a mill clerk position to Section Chief, Warehouse and Stores. He retired in 1981.
In his retirement he traveled extensively and enjoyed the company of family and friends.
Ray was predeceased by his wife Mary (Modenese) Donnelly and by his beloved only child Raymond Peter Donnelly who was killed in action in 1972 in the Vietnam War.
Ray is survived by his nephews, Vincent Donnelly of Aurora CO, and Joseph (Laurie) Modenese of Waterbury. He leaves three nieces Lorraine (James) Regan of Naugatuck, Eleanor Donnelly of Riverview, FL and Patricia (Richard) Buell of Waterbury as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews. He also leaves his longtime companion, Doris Grady of Wolcott. He was predeceased by his brother John Francis Donnelly.
Friends may greet the family at the Mulville Funeral Home, 270 West Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06710, on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, from 5PM to 7PM. Ray's funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 9:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in Saints Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Road, Waterbury. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations to be made to the Sacred Heart High School / Raymond P Donnelly Memorial Scholarship.
