Rama Bhalla of Cheshire passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of Brahm for over 60 years. Rama was born in India and emigrated to the US in the 1960s.
Rama and Brahm came to Cheshire in 1978, relocating from New Orleans. Rama and Brahm's appreciation for the importance of a good education brought them to Cheshire. From the beginning, she was active in her children's schools serving in many roles including Room Parent and library aide at Chapman School. She was a generous, selfless woman and was quick to make friends with many from all walks of life. An affectionate woman, Rama adored her family and she put her heart into every activity, whether it be knitting or cooking. She was well known for her ability to replicate a recipe after a single taste and make it better. After her children were grown, she joined the workforce for the first time at the age of 50 with the team at Marshall’s. Brahm and Rama were both involved with Siddha Yoga. She and Brahm ran a meditation chanting group for over 18 years. Members of the group continue to reflect on the love and community evidenced in that group. Rama will be remembered for her kind and generous nature, love of family in addition to her perfectly manicured nails and signature fragrances.
Rama is the beloved mother of Vanita Bhalla and her wife, Maria of Woodbury; Sanjeev Bhalla of St. Louis, MO; and Amita Bhalla of Los Angeles, CA. She also leaves her cherished grandson, Lucas; her sister, Kamla; special grand-nephew, Rahul; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Bimla, Balraj and Shiv.
Services for Rama will be private. Celebration of life will follow in the Spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheshire Community Food Pantry (www.cheshirefoodpantry.org). The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire has been entrusted with her care. To leave condolences for her family, or to share a story of Rama, please visit www.fordfh.com
