Naugatuck, CT Gordon Francis Ploof, Sr., 88, husband of Charlotte (Fortune) Ploof, died peacefully January 31, 2023 at Griffin Hospital.
Gordon was born February 23, 1934 in Bakersfield, VT son of the late Oscar and Dorothy (Thompson) Ploof and attended local schools in Vermont. Gordon worked for 40 years as a fuel control technician in the defense industry, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the United Aerospace Workers Union and the Bridgeport Rifle Club and he proudly served in the Army National Guard. In his younger years, Gordon enjoyed scuba diving and competitive pistol competitions. After retirement, he enjoyed snowmobiling in Vermont, traveling with his son, Gordon, Jr. to car shows and swap meets, spending time in his pool, mostly with his grandchildren, and rebuilding a fleet of motorized cars.
Gordon was always generous with his time with family and he could fix anything. He was delighted to have 2 great granddaughters and he looked forward to his McDonald’s coffee every day.
In addition to Charlotte, his wife of 67 years, Gordon is survived by his son Gordon F. Ploof, Jr. and his wife, Kathleen Ploof of Forestville; his daughter, Sherrie Ploof of Waterbury; his grandchildren, Gordon F. Ploof, III and Abbey Schmitz of Naugatuck, Corey M. Ploof and Michelle LeFrancois of Naugatuck, Amy Fellows of Watertown and Kyle Fellows of Terryville; his son in law, Don Fellows of Watertown; his granddaughters, Autumn (Selena) Blackwood, Malaina Carneiro and Miranda Carneiro of Waterbury; his great granddaughters, Eleanor Charlotte Ploof and Milly Lisa Awwad and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gordon was predeceased by his daughter, Cindy (Ploof) Fellows and his sister, Christine Ploof.
Family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Gordon’s life on Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
