Pierce J. Downey

WATERBURY- Pierce J. Downey, 61, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 26, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Mr. Downey was born September 22, 1958 in Waterbury, son of the late John J. and Mary “May” A. (SantaLucia) Downey.

Pierce graduated from Holy Cross High School, Class of 1976, and Southern Connecticut State University. Mr. Downey was a Life and Health Agent at Brooks, Todd, & McNeil at the time of his passing.

Pierce was on the board of the Neighborhood Housing Services of Waterbury, a member of the Western Hills Men’s Golf Association, and a regular at the YMCA in Waterbury. He loved literature, music, and a pint with some good banter. Above all he loved spending time in North Truro, MA (Cape Cod) with his family.

Mr. Downey is survived by his two daughters Katherine and her husband Yanne Spirovski of Needham, MA, and Elisabeth Downey and her fiancé Robert Marzilli of Brighton, MA; two brothers Christopher Downey and his wife Kellie Lynch of Oakville, and Michael and his wife Lisa Downey of Wellesley, MA; his beloved granddaughter Mila Spirovski; nieces and nephews Jack, Julia, Natalie, Rachel, and Eamon Downey; and numerous close cousins. He was predeceased by his brother John J. Downey.

Calling hours for Pierce will be held 2 to 5 P.M, Sunday, December 29, 2019 at The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 496 Chase Ave, 06704. Mr. Downey’s funeral will start 8:45 A.M, Monday, December 30, 2019 from the funeral home and proceed to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St, Waterbury, 06702 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Donations in his name can be made to the Greater Waterbury YMCA, 136 West Main St, Waterbury, CT 06702.
