Naugatuck, CT Nancy (Mezzio) Payne, 99, the widow of Richard A. Payne, her husband of 71 years, died peacefully on August 23, 2024 surrounded by her family.
Nancy was born October 7, 1924 in Naugatuck, CT a daughter of the late Sofio and Vincenza (Pandolfo) Mezzio. Nancy was a lifelong Naugatuck resident and had worked at Uniroyal, Inc. and retired from Naugatuck Savings Bank.
Nancy was a master sewer and quilter. Her favorite pastime was getting ready for “Sunday Brunch” of meatballs, pizza, and homemade sauce on the stove, or whatever was wanted. She also loved to go to the casino with her husband.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Frani Martin and her husband, Kerry; her son, Joseph Payne; her grandchildren; Richard Kilmer, Christine Howard, Steven Kilmer, Christopher Martin, Joseph Martin, Andrew Payne, John Payne, and Thomas Payne; 15 great grandchildren, plus 2 on the way, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her daughter, Ann Marie Kilmer, her brothers, Sebastian and James Mezzio, her sister, Lucy Bombaci and her daughter in law, Holly Payne.
The family would like to thank Ines at Connecticut Primary Care and Wellness, Chaplin Tim and Naconecma at Accent Hospice Care, and the entire staff at Complete Care at Middlebury.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00am at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck. Everyone attending Mass is kindly asked to please meet directly at church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor Nancy’s memory, donations are requested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
