CHESHIRE – Patricia (Cowie) Kraus, 90, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. She was the wife of the late Theodore C. Kraus, who passed away in 2014.
Mrs. Kraus was born February 25, 1931 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of the late John and Ann (Stamm) Cowie. She was a retired private practice psychologist.
Mrs. Kraus is survived by her children Michael and his wife Kelly of Naugatuck, Martin and his wife Carolyn of Cheshire, Richard and his wife Monika of Harwinton, Julianne Kraus of Plantsville and Daniel and his wife Dina of Nashville, TN; her nine grandchildren Lauren, Rachel, Kelsey, Raegan, Nicholas, Jessica, Rebecca, Harrison and Maxwell; and her great grandchild Caleb. She is predeceased by her brother Robert, and is survived by her brother John.
Patricia earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Louis where she was the only female chemistry student, and where she met her husband of 58 years, Ted. As a homemaker, Pat was a talented seamstress, crafter, and quilter. After raising five children, she went back to school and earned multiple advanced degrees including a Ph.D. in Psychology (marriage and family studies) from the University of Connecticut. She was also a published author.
A woman of great faith, Pat sang in the choir, served as eucharistic minister, and belonged to the Woman’s Guild at St. Bridget’s parish. She often spoke about her spiritual journey.
Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St., to St. Bridget of Sweden Parish / St. Thomas Becket Church, 435 North Brooksvale Road, Cheshire, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021, from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M., at the funeral home. Despite reductions in COVID #19 cases, face masks are still required for persons attending these calling hours.
