Patricia Ann Barrett

Patricia Ann Barrett, 80, of Cheshire passed away on August 29, 2024 at Yale Smilow Hospital in New Haven, CT. Patricia “Patty” was born on May 2, 1944, at St. Raphael’s Hospital in New Haven, CT.

She graduated from the former St. Mary’s High School in New Haven, and later Quinnipiac University where she earned an Associates Degree. She was employed for several years by the former Dagget, Dolby, & Hooker Law Firm in New Haven as a legal secretary, and later went on to a brief career as a real estate agent with Cheshire Real Estate.

In 1969, Patty married the love of her life, Michael, and the two eventually settled in Cheshire, where they were residents for nearly 50 years. Patty went back to school in the early 90’s, earning her Nursing Degree from Kaynor Tech. She was a health aide at Doolittle School in Cheshire before being employed by Fine & Gillette in Cheshire as a women's health nurse.

In her later years, Patty enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, and spending time with her three grandchildren. She and Mike proudly mowed their lawn together every week, and she was even more proud of wearing her floppy hat to keep the sun out of her eyes. She was also an avid fan of the UConn Women’s basketball team and the New York Yankees.

She had a quick wit, a warm heart, and was loved by all who knew her. It’s a profound loss, but we rejoice in her life, and the privilege of having been a part of it.

Patty is predeceased by her parents, Paul and Mary (Scally) Seaman. Besides her husband, Patty is survived by her daughter, Laura Minegar and her husband Nate of Old Saybrook; her son, Paul Barrett and his wife Shannon of Hamden; and her daughter, Gayle Barrett of Middletown. She is also survived by her three beautiful granddaughters, Catherine and Abigail Minegar of Old Saybrook, and Hannah Barrett of Hamden.

In lieu of flowers, Patty requested that any contributions go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Closer to Free Fund/Smilow Cancer Hospital. Our family would like to thank the amazing and angelic staff at Smilow NP14 for their excellent care, as well as the Yale Smilow Oncology Unit.
