LAKE WORTH, FL- Oscar Silverman, 89, formerly of Cheshire, passed away Wednesday November 9, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Judith M. Silverman in 2009, to whom he was blissfully married to for 60 years.
He was born August 21, 1922 in Waterbury, son of the late Samuel and Anna (Goldberg) Silverman.
Oscar attended Crosby High School, and Ohio University. He served in World War II with the United States Army where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Oscar was the President and Owner of the Waterbury Store Fixture Company prior to his retirement. He was well known and respected throughout the foodservice industry for his expertise and commitment to his customers. He specialized in the designing, planning, and installation of commercial kitchen equipment.
He was extremely passionate about his family, his business, and the food service industry. He enjoyed every day, every sale, every aspect of his life, and was optimistic and grateful for all that he had.
Upon his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, golfing, playing poker with friends, time with his family, Florida living, and last but not least, THE DAILY REPORT from his family's business, The Warehouse Restaurant Supply Company, WTBY,CT.
The family would like give a special thanks to the Staff at St. Mary's Hospital, for the care and comfort they provided Oscar during his time at there, and to our family friend Rose for all her support.
Oscar is survived by his two devoted sons Roy and his wife Shelly Silverman of Avon, and David and his wife Nancy Silverman of Cheshire; three beloved daughters Lynn Silverman of Watertown, Karen and her husband Jeff Rosow of Cheshire, and Debra and her husband Jeffrey Ehrlich of Cheshire; a sister Syd and her husband Ben Levine of Lake Worth, FL; twelve grandchildren Todd, Hayley and her husband Michael, Michael and his wife Becca, Neal, Allison and her husband John, Brad, Jason, Amy, Jesse, Abby, Karly, Molly; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements- A private graveside service for Oscar will be held Thursday November 10, 2011 at Beth El Temple Cemetery Avon, CT. Shiva will be observed at the home of David and Nancy Silverman, 145 Scenic Court Cheshire, CT, Thursday, November 10, between the hours of 6-8PM. Friends and family are welcome to pay their condolences at this time. The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St, 06410 is in charge of the arrangements.
