CHESHIRE - Olga Marie Fernandez, 93, formerly of Cheshire, CT, passed away on June 27, 2015 at Southington Care Center in Southington, CT where she resided since December 28, 2011.
She was born on a sunny May 5, 1922 in her parents' Bronx, NY apartment. The last of three children, she was always made to feel special by her older sister and brother. She attended Washington High, a few short blocks from Grammercy Park in NYC, where she loved to peek through the park's iron fence every day. She studied fashion design and had a lifelong passion and talent for design, color and beauty. On December 10, 1944 she married Frank Fernandez in NYC who promised to come home after his final tour of duty in WWII. When he returned, they enjoyed 38 years of a solid, loving marriage, and lived in many interesting places including their native NY, Brazil, North Carolina and finally Connecticut. After her husband's death in 1982, she began her 23 + year career at Casual Curtain in Cheshire. She loved her customers and came to work each day to make someone happy.
She is survived by her only child and daughter, Olga R. Fernandez, currently residing in Cheshire, CT.
Olga's daughter wishes to extend deep and sincere gratitude to the nursing and CNA staff at Southington Care Center on Floor One South who were diligent, respectful, professional and exceptionally caring, and who provided unwavering comfort, support and love to my mom and myself. Thank you – all of you. I love you all.
Arrangements – A graveside service will be held on Tuesday June 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. Memorial contributions may be made to Southington Care Center for recreational programs at 45 Meriden Ave., Southington, CT 06489.
