Norma Lamb Thompson of Wallingford passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021 at age 100. She was the devoted wife of the late John Boyd Thompson. Norma was born in New Haven on May 25, 1920, daughter of the late William and Mary Ann Kelly Lamb.
She is the beloved mother of Maryann Dolan and her husband, John, of Wallingford; and also leaves her precious grandson, Kevin Dolan and his wife, Julienne; and her two great-grandchildren, Megan and Cullen Dolan of Avon, who she adored; and several wonderful nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Norma was predeceased by her cherished daughter, Sheryl Lee Thompson and 13 siblings.
As a young woman, she and her sister, Joan Lamb McGlynn, were a professional tap-dancing team who performed throughout New England and other nearby states. Norma also had a long career at the Hall of Records in New Haven. She worked in various offices there, to include Comptroller, Tax, Assessor and the Police Department.
Norma and her family resided mostly in North Haven and Cheshire. While in Cheshire, she was a member of the Cheshire Women’s Club and a faithful parishioner of St. Bridget and St. Thomas Becket churches for 35 years. Norma loved to shop for clothes and furniture with her daughters. She had a lifelong love for fashion and home décor, and it showed in her stylish way of dressing and in how she decorated her home. She enjoyed going to the movies, listening to music from her era, especially watching reruns of the Lawrence Welk shows, doing some line dancing in her 90s at the Cheshire Senior Center, reading the daily newspaper to keep up with current events, and watching TV, especially figure skating programs, and Tom Brady when with the New England Patriots. Traveling to warmer climates in the winter was a favorite of hers and John’s, and included such places as FL, the islands of Aruba, Puerto Rico, Bermuda and St. Martin. Norma and John shared the love of salt water beaches and sunshine, and enjoyed dining at Italian, German and French restaurants in CT. As a widow for over 23 years, she spent many winters in Naples, FL with her daughter and son-in-law revisiting many places she had been with her husband and daughter, Sheryl.
Norma will be greatly missed by her family, and they are most grateful to the staff of Argonauta at Ashlar Village in Wallingford, and especially Nurse Sophia Wilder for the great care and kindness shown to her throughout her stay. They also appreciate the Masonicare Hospice staff and the team of Masonicare at Home Aides, especially of Margaret and Vivian. Gratitude also goes to her friends who regularly visited and brightened her days there.
