Mrs. Nora-Lee (Walters) Arras, 94, of Naugatuck, passed away Saturday Dec. 14, 2013 at her home. She was the wife of the late H. Philip Arras who passed away in 1999.
Mrs. Arras was born in New York, N.Y. the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Hahn) Bonner and was raised by her adoptive parents, the late, Elmer and Theresa Walters. She was educated in the New York school system and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, having enlisted in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1947. While a resident of New York, she was a member of the Riverside Church and the Young Adults group at the church and had been a volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital. She moved to Naugatuck in 1950, and a one time she had worked for the Naugatuck School system as a Teacher's Aid.
Mrs. Arras had been an active member of the Hillside Covenant Church, and had been a member of the Knitting group, the Ladies Auxiliary, the Quilting group, a past President of the Covenant Women, and had served as a Sunday school teacher for Terrace Hall. She was a volunteer with the Howard Whittemore Library, recording books for the Blind, and had been a Volunteer with the Naugatuck Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was formerly a member of the Women's group of the Council of Churches and had been active with the Ecumenical Food Bank.
She leaves 3 sons, Thomas Arras of Woodbury, James Arras of Loon Lake, Wash., and William Arras of Bend, OR.; 3 grandchildren, Jonathan Arras, Kristin Arras, and Sarra Arras ; 3 great-grandchildren, Jared, Allegra, and Jaela.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday Jan. 4, 2014 at 11 am at the Hillside Covenant Church. 100 Hillside Ave. Burial will be in the spring in Slate Hill Cemetery, Goshen, N.Y. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. is assisting the family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hillside Covenant Church 100 Hillside Ave., Naugatuck 06770-4056.
