Nelson Avery

SOUTHBURY- Mr. Nelson Donald Avery, 84, of Southbury, passed away late Friday evening April 5, 2013 at the Lutheran Home of Southbury.

Mr. Avery was born in Waterbury, Mar. 13, 1929, a son of the late Earl Avery and Grace (Hungerford) (Avery) Sherer and was educated in the Waterbury school system. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a self-employed home remediator, acquiring and remodeling residential properties. His interests included buying and selling antiques and the Avery- Copp Museum at Avery Point, Groton.

He leaves his brother, Celester "Charlie" C. Scherer and his wife Nanette of Woodbury and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, and sisters; Martin Scherer, Helen Hungerford, and Barbara Harrison.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 10, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Portland at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
