Nathan Edward Russell, 94, of Beacon Falls, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
Nathan was born in Beacon Falls on February 23, 1925, son of the late William Henry Russell and Edith (Wersig) Russell. He was a lifetime resident of Beacon Falls and was a retired heavy equipment operator.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, stationed aboard the USS Los Angeles.
He was a man of many talents, building his own home from the ground up, and enjoyed spending his free time hunting, gardening, fishing, and being the family handyman. He was an avid horse racing, Yankees, and UCONN women’s basketball fan.
Mr. Russell is survived by his son Thomas Russell, his daughter Debra Daigle and her husband Arthur; his grandchildren Thomas J. Russell and his wife Kristina (Calca) Russell, Jennifer Russell, and Lisa Daigle; several great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, all who he loved dearly.
Nathan was predeceased by his wife Helen (Groccia) Russell; his grandson Nicholas Daigle and his siblings Anna May, Betty, Beulah “Boots”, Dora, Edith, Eleanor, Frank, Fred, Henry, James, Leonard, and Viola.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Active Day of Middlebury for the kind and compassionate care given to Nathan over the past few years.
Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Alderson- Ford Funeral Home in Naugatuck, followed by a service to begin at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Pinesbridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Beacon Hose Company No. 1, 35 North Main Street, Beacon Falls, CT 06403.
