Nancy (Rice) Anderson, age 94, of Waterbury quietly slipped away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Waterbury Hospital. Nancy was born on October 26, 1921 in Watertown, daughter of the late William E. and Alzora (Atwood) Rice. She was the devoted wife of the late John Ragnar Anderson Jr. whom she married in 1972 and shared twenty-three loving years until his passing.
Nancy grew up in Watertown with her ten siblings. She had many fond memories of being part of a large family. During WWII while five of her brothers served, she did her part by volunteering for the Red Cross and participated in government work for young people. She worked as a Switchboard Operator for Southern New England Telephone, retiring after thirty-five years of service, enjoying many continuing friendships.
Nancy had a lifelong love of reading. This led her to being a library assistant, starting at the Watertown Library, and then many years with the Waterbury Public Library. She was a fan of the UConn Girls Basketball Team, cheering for them through all their victories.
She will always be known for her kind, caring, and generous personality.
She is survived by her loving sister, Cora H. Rice of Waterbury and loving brother, William E. Rice Jr. of Watertown; and she also leaves many loved and cherished nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Nancy was predeceased by her siblings; Dorothy Rice, Edward Rice, Elizabeth O’Connor, Woodrow Rice, Ernest Rice, Raymond Rice, Ruth McConkey, and Shirley Zuraitis.
Memorial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery Chapel, Saturday, October 29th, 11am, North Street, Watertown, CT 06795.
