Nancy Gates

Tequesta, FL ' Nancy (Tanner) Gates, 87, of Tequesta, FL, passed away Monday January 19, 2009. She was the wife of the late Dr. William Gates Jr.

Mrs. Gates was born May 10, 1921 in Oneida, NY, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Doran) Tanner. She was a resident of Cheshire since 1971 before moving to Florida in 2001. She was a French and Latin teacher at the Hoadley Montessori School in Cheshire for many years.

Mrs. Gates is survived by her two sons Peter Gates of Wellington, FL and Jason "Kipp" Gates of Tequesta, FL; her five daughters Patricia Parker of Richmond, VT, Jennifer Goldman of Cheshire, Penelope "Penny" Reilly of Cheshire, Nancy Bowman of Cheshire, Elizabeth "Beth" Ferguson of Ft. Collins, CO; a brother Robert Tanner of Annville, PA; her sister Carol Atkinson of Northport, FL; thirteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a nephew and a niece. She was predeceased by a brother Edward Tanner.

Arrangements ' A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday February 28, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany, Cheshire. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Irish Ridge Cemetery in Durhamville, NY. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Palm Beach Gardens Hospice, 3360 Burns Rd., Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410 or to the Lois Rho Scholarship c/o Donna Notti, Darcey School, 1686 Waterbury Rd., Cheshire, CT 06410. The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire is in charge of arrangements.
