Cheshire - Nancy G. Bauer, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 19, 2024, with her husband Dr. Peter W Bauer by her side.
Mrs. Bauer was born September 1, 1933, in Northampton, MA. The daughter of the late Lewis Henry and Beatrice Mae (Rossmeisl) Gustafson, she attended Northampton schools and Smith College, graduating with a BS in Zoology in 1955. Following graduation, she worked for Arthur D. Little, Inc. in Cambridge, Massachusetts doing cancer research.
On August 27, 1955, she married Peter W. Bauer Jr. They lived for 7 years in the Boston, Massachusetts area before moving to Cheshire, Connecticut.
Besides her husband of 69 years, Mrs. Bauer is survived by her daughter Kristin (Michael) Russo; her sons Peter W. (Susan) Bauer III and Eric (Chris-Ann) Bauer; grandchildren Zachary (Natalie Worley) Russo, EmilyMarie (Claude M. Randolph IV) Russo, Amanda (Marshall Kemnitz) Bauer, Peter W. Bauer IV, Ulrika (Kirk) Strassberger, Karl (Shannon Tucker) Bauer, Anna (Davis Gray) Bauer; and a great-grandson Adam Michael Strassberger and great-granddaughter Ava Strassberger. Mrs. Bauer is predeceased by her sister, Janet McKay, and Janet’s husband Robert.
Once her children were in their teens she worked as a Customer Service Representative at Jefferson Federal Savings. She then worked as a Staff Accountant and office manager at the Wasserman, Zabel, and Huskes, P.C. accounting firm.
During the years before her employment, she was also active in the Junior Women’s Club, Colonizers at the 1st Congregational Church of Cheshire, PTA President of Chapman School, Friends of the Cheshire Library, Deaconess of the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, and The Cheshire Garden Club where she served as Secretary, Vice President, and then President from 2005-2007. In addition, she served as Bird Chairman in the Garden Club for several years beginning in 2002, which included monthly publications of her column on birds in “The Cheshire Herald”.
Her love of family, gourmet cooking, oil painting, classical piano studies, sailing, cross-country and downhill skiing, reading, writing, gardening, fly-fishing, and the study of birds have always played an important part in her life.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11:00 am at the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, 111 Church Dr. Interment will follow in the church columbarium. There are no calling hours. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Deacon’s Fund of the First Congregational Church of Cheshire.
