LEE, NH – Michael J. Morton, 77, of 206 North River Road, formerly of Epping, NH, and Southbury, CT, died peacefully on November 19, 2016. He was the husband of Jacqueline A. (Bedard) Morton, who predeceased him in 2012.
Mr. Morton was born in Waterbury, CT, on April 28, 1939, son of the late Joseph M. and the late Katherine E. (Allman) Morton. A former resident of Naugatuck, CT, he lived in Southbury for 24 years before moving to New Hampshire in 2009. A graduate of Crosby High School in Waterbury, he also served in the US Coast Guard from 1958-1966. He was employed as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Waterbury for 39 years, and also served as a part-time assistant manager for the Waterbury Postal Employees Federal Credit Union.
He enjoyed bowling in the post office bowling league from 1964-1986. He was a member of AARP, and served as an officer for Branch 168 of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Southbury, and Saint Joseph Church in Epping. Other interests included traveling and cheering on his favorite team, the New York Yankees.
He leaves two daughters, Cheryl A. Morton of Torrington, CT, and Michelle J. Morton-Curit and her husband, Roland, of Epping; a brother, Dennis P. Morton, and wife Shirley, of Waterbury; two step-granddaughters, Rachel E. Curit of Pittsfield, MA, and Mariel R. Curit of Otisfield, ME; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Maureen M. Corcoran, in 2015.
Arrangements – Friends will be received on Friday November 25, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 270 West Main St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main St. Southbury. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Portsmouth, NH on Saturday December 3, 2016 at 11 a.m. A memorial service in New Hampshire will be scheduled at a later date.
