Michael A. Arisco, fondly known as “Mickey” age 82, of Cheshire, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Filomena (Moccia) Arisco for over 60 years. Michael was born on May 20, 1942 in Waterbury, son of the late Michael and Mafalda (Stanco) Arisco.
He was raised in Cheshire and graduated from W.F. Kaynor Technical High School in Waterbury. He was introduced to the love of his life by one of his cousins, and in February of 1964, Michael married Filomena and embarked on creating a family and life together over the next 6 decades.
In 1969, he founded Michael’s Greenhouses in Cheshire, where he and Filomena worked side by side to build their family business and raise their two boys, Mike and Joe. Mickey was known for his natural talent to fix anything mechanical and loved collecting antique cars and repairing his beloved tractors and farm equipment. He was one of many influential founding farmers that established today’s greenhouse industry in Cheshire as the Bedding Plant Capital of Connecticut.
Mickey’s passion for farming and love of his Italian heritage made him known for producing his enviable “homemade wine” and “best grown corn“ among his local farmer friends. For decades, together with his wife Filomena’s famous cooking talents, they welcomed family, friends and neighbors for legendary weekly Tuesday night dinners filled with love, laughter and tradition.
Mickey is the beloved father of Michael P. Arisco and his wife, Aili of Cheshire; and Joseph Arisco and his wife, Maryann Demora of Cheshire. Michael also leaves his 4 cherished grandchildren, Thomas and wife Emily, Deanna, Michael, Nicholas and wife Christyn; his siblings, Anthony Arisco of Southington; Alex Arisco and his wife, Beverly of Cheshire; Susan Arisco of East Haddam; and Nancy Leroy and her husband, Vincent of Farmington; along with his many loving nieces and nephews.
