Naugatuck – Marilyn McGrath, 88, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at VITAS at St. Mary’s Hospital after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Francis McGrath.

Marilyn McGrath was born on June 29, 1926 in Danbury, CT. She attended Danbury schools. Marilyn was the daughter of the late Frederick and Marion Merritt. She was a homemaker. She was a diehard Yankees and sports fan. She enjoyed fishing and the great outdoors. Marilyn was most proud of her family, raising her four children and her grandchild Rory Culhane Jr. Marilyn was completely devoted to her family. She will be reunited with her loving mother, Marion Merritt.

Marilyn is survived by her lifelong companion of 35 years Marcus Gene Johnson, her two daughters, Sharon Melvin and her husband, Gary, of Lebanon, N.H. and Kathleen Cerchia, and her husband Michael, of Naugatuck. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Kenneth Ambrose Jr., Amy Deptula, Shannon Smith, Justin Melvin, Rory Culhane Jr., Lori Connary, Michaela Cerchia, and her 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Francis McGrath and her daughter, Dolores Culhane.

The funeral for Mrs. McGrath will be held on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 25 West Street, Danbury. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be in Raymond Hill Cemetery, 165 Gleneida Ave, Carmel, NY. Friends may call at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck on Sunday afternoon from 4-6 p.m.
