May M. Cancellaro

May M. Cancellaro, age 101, of Naugatuck entered into rest on Friday, February 19, 2021 at Waterbury Hospital. May was born on May 1, 1919 in Beacon Falls, daughter of the late Alberto and Vincintia (Cretella) Zollo, and was a resident of Beacon Falls and Seymour for most of her life.

May worked as a machine operator for over 22 years for Homer D. Bronson until retiring in 1981 and moving to Naugatuck. Family and friends always came first to May. She learned from a young age to be supportive to others, helping her father with her siblings after her mother’s untimely passing. This caring nature followed May throughout her life, and she offered comfort to anyone in need. May was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She cheered for the NY Yankees and embraced her Italian heritage in the kitchen, cooking and making her renowned manicotti with marinara sauce.

She is the beloved grandmother of Mark Sarasin of Beacon Falls and Jeffrey Sarasin and his wife, Dale of Port St. Lucie, FL; and is also survived by her cherished great-grandson, Matthew Sarasin; and many loving nieces and nephews. May was predeceased by her daughter, Jeanne Knapp; her brothers Charles, Benedict, Victor, Albert, Richard, and James Zollo and her sisters, Antoinette Sabia, Ann Classey, and Madelene Sherry.

Due to Covid, a memorial service for May will be held at a later date when it is safe for all to gather.
