SOUTHBURY – Dr. Maurice (Mike) Falk, MD, 81, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Dr. Carolyn R. Falk who passed away in 2015 after 56 years of marriage.

Dr. Falk was born February 9, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Samuel and Freda (Cohen) Falk. He was a longtime Pediatrician serving those in the Naugatuck Valley. Mike grew up in Brooklyn, attended NYU ’56, and attended medical school at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, ’61. He completed his residency at Waterbury Hospital and Yale University. He served three years as Chief of Pediatrics in the USAF at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City South Dakota. Returning to the Waterbury area, he began private practice in Naugatuck and served as Chief of Pediatrics as well as Chief of Medical Staff at Waterbury Hospital. He was President of Beth El Synagogue, and more recently House Chair at B’nai Israel Synagogue, where he also sang in the choir. Mike was a Health Director as well as Police Commissioner for the town of Middlebury, and was President of the Watertown Skating Club. He was an avid tennis player, an artisan with wood, and played the saxophone and clarinet. For many summers in high school and college he played professionally in a jazz quartet in the Catskills.

Dr. Falk is survived by his son Steven Falk and his wife Claire Landers of Baltimore, MD; his daughter Jodi P. Falk and her husband Gary Newcomb of Greenfield, MA; his grandchildren Felice Falk, Matan J. Newcomb, Dhar E. and Rosa L. Newshore. Dr. Falk is also survived by his sister Anita Bullock of Florida.

Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 12pm at B'nai Israel Synagogue, 444 Main St. North, Southbury. Burial will follow in Beth El Cemetery, Waterbury. Family will be receiving visitors between 2-4:30, and 6:30-8:30pm, with a minyan service at 7pm, at Pomperaug Woods, 80 Heritage Road Southbury, in the Garden Room. Memorial contributions may be made to B’nai Israel Synagogue or to The Bonnie Youth Club at bonnieyouth.org, an educational baseball league for youth of Brooklyn.
