CHESHIRE – Maureen Frances (Dinnan) Matyszewski, 87, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025, at MidState Hospital, Meriden. She was the wife of the late Dr. Stanley Eugene Matyszewski. Mrs. Matyszewski was born September 5, 1937, in New Haven, CT, the daughter of the late New Haven Police Captain James A. and Sadie (Cohane) Dinnan. She attended Hillhouse High School (Class of ‘54) before receiving her Nursing degree from St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing in Bridgeport, CT, graduating in 1957.
Maureen worked as a pediatric nurse at St Vincent’s Hospital before becoming Head Nurse in Cardiovascular Surgery at Yale New Haven Hospital under the late Dr. William Glenn. She also attended Southern Connecticut State University for graduate work.
Maureen was a resident of Cheshire, CT since 1970 where she and her husband of 58 years raised their family of six children. She served as President of the Ladies’ Guild of St. Bridget Church, a volunteer nurse for the Chesprocott Health Department, Co-Chairman of the “Save Roaring Brook” Preservation, a member of the Cheshire Inlands-Wetlands Committee, a Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Leader, and Room Mother for numerous years for each of her children. Together with her husband, she enjoyed traveling, cruising, attending theatre and musical performances, and visiting her children and grandchildren.
Maureen was predeceased by her husband Stanley E. Matyszewski, MD and their son Stephen Thomas. She is survived by her daughter Catherine Matyszewski, her son Christopher Matyszewski and his wife Kate, her son Michael Matyszewski and his wife Lindsey, and her grandchildren Andrea, Josie, Damon, Grace, Tierney, Bryn, and Shane. Arrangements – Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 22, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St. On Thursday, her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am and proceed to St. Bridget of Sweden Parish - St. Bridget Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery.
