MIDDLEBURY; Mrs. Maureen (Gardner) Conway, 73 of Middlebury passed away on April 22, 2011 after a brief illness at the VITAS Hospice Unit of Saint Mary's Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Edward Thomas Conway who passed away in 2010 to whom she was married for 46 years.
Maureen was born on March 27, 1938 in Waterbury the daughter of the late Milton A. and Mabel (Boulanger) Gardner and was raised in the Oakville section of Watertown. She was a graduate of Watertown High School and Post College of Waterbury. She retired as the office manager for Richard A. Matza, MD of the Arthritis Center of Connecticut.
Maureen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, particularly while vacationing with them at the beaches of Rhode Island. She was an avid reader and New York Yankees fan.
She leaves her sons, Edward G. Conway and his wife Karen of Waterbury, Brendan P. Conway and his wife Dorothy of Naugatuck and Kerry T. Conway of Middlebury, her grandchildren, Sarah, Benjamin, Shannon, Hannah, Seamus, Dillon, Emma, Elizabeth, Nathan and Devin as well as several nieces, nephews and her dear friend Mary (Henebery) Jackman. She was predeceased by her brother Milton A. Gardner and her daughter-in-law Tammy Marie Conway.
Funeral services for Mrs. Conway will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck 201 Meadow Street and proceed to St. John of the Cross Church, Whittemore Road, Middlebury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Lake Elise Cemetery in Middlebury.
