NAUGATUCK- Mrs. Mary (Chanko) Zan, 98, of Naugatuck, passed away at the home of her granddaughter in Waterbury on Saturday afternoon Dec. 20, 2014. She was the widow of Michael Zan, who passed away in 1965.
Mrs. Zan was born in Naugatuck, Feb. 4, 1916, a daughter of the late Michael and Anna Chanko and was a lifelong resident of Naugatuck. She was educated in the local school system and retired in 1977 from Uniroyal-Footwear Div. after 29 years of service. Previously, she had been employed at Peter Paul Candy Co. for 7 years.
She leaves a son, Michael Zan of Jacksonville, OR., and was predeceased by a daughter Ruth (Zan) Kurtz in 2008. She also leaves two sisters, Mildred Olsovey and Ruth Borsos both of Boynton Beach, FL; 5 grandchildren, Ruth E. Manka, Robert A. Manka, Roberta A. Mastropietro, Matthew M. Zan, and Mark W. Zan; 4 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Zachary Boland, Jon Yeargon and Christopher Manka; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Sophia and Khloe.
Funeral services will be held on Friday Dec. 26, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Cross St., Naugatuck. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday for a viewing from 12 noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Pkwy., Waterbury, CT 06708-2948.
