CHESHIRE – Mary (Gesseck) Zdonczyk, 103, passed away Sunday April 4, 2021. She was the wife of the late Theodore J. Zdonczyk, who passed away in 2012. They were married for 70 years.
Mrs. Zdonczyk was born December 17, 1917, in Naugatuck, daughter of the late Adam and Bronislawa (Rumanski) Gesseck. She was a longtime resident of Waterbury, moving to Cheshire in 1976. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish in Waterbury and St. Bridget Parish in Cheshire.
Mary and her husband started Dell Amusement and Vending Machine Company in 1949 and were actively involved in the business until their retirement in 1990.
“Gran” was happiest in the company of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and always enjoyed trips to the family home on Cape Cod.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Z. Soltis and her husband Jerry; Bonnie LaVigna and her husband Fred; and Allyn DeMaida and her husband Bill; her grandchildren, Jay Soltis and his wife Lee; Allyson LaRock and her husband Scott; Ellyn Stoltz; Will DeMaida and his wife Lisa; and Christopher DeMaida and his wife Rachael; her great-grandchildren Camille, Juliette and Quinn LaRock; Lilly Stoltz; Jack Soltis; and Cora and Oliver DeMaida, along with several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Walter, Stanley, Henry, Leonard, Joseph, and Edward.
Mary’s family would like to thank the staff members at Cheshire House and Waterbury Gardens for their compassionate care over the last several years.
Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021, at 9:15 A.M., from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire 615 S. Main St. to St. Bridget of Sweden Parish/St. Bridget Church, 175 Main Street, Cheshire, for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. A calling hour will be held prior to the service, from 8:30 A.M. until departure. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, P.O.
