PLANTSVILLE- Mary Ellen Bruno, 71, passed away on Friday March 14, 2014 at The Southington Care Center. She was the loving wife of Richard Bruno.
She was born September 6, 1942 in Nogales, AZ, the only child of the late Hubert and Ingeborg Frane.
Mary graduated from Whittier High School, class of 1960 and she received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Arizona in Public Administration. She was an Aerobics Instructor in the town of Cheshire for over 30 years. Mary was heavily involved with the Girls Scouts and became a Marketing Director for the Girl Scouts of Connecticut until her retirement. Mary's lifelong passion was singing and she loved to dance, garden and paint. She was a certified scuba diver and she and Richard enjoyed taking dive trips around the world. She was the glue of the family and had a positive impact on every community she touched. She will always be remembered for her vibrant personality, eternal optimism and contagious smile.
Along with her husband Richard, Mary is survived by a son Jeff and his wife Kim Bruno; a daughter Kristin and her husband Oliver Downie; and three grandchildren Makenna, Mila, and Avery.
Arrangements: Calling hours for Mary will be held on Thursday, March 20th, from 5 to 8 P.M at The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street, 06410. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to The Southington Care Center, 45 Meriden Ave, Southington, CT 06489, or to the American Cancer Society, 1075 Chase Pkwy, Waterbury, CT 06708.
