Ft. Lauderdale, FL - Martin R. Doring 97, formerly of Cheshire, was born May 23, 1921 in Manhattan, NY passed away peacefully on August 20, 2018 at a hospice facility of natural causes. He was in WWII from 1939 to 1946 as a Chief Boatswain Mate in the U.S. Coast Guard. He spent more than five years at sea. He was on the CGC Icarus in the North Atlantic, the CGC 451 as XO, and the CGC 228 as the CO in the Mid Atlantic. In the Pacific he was on the ocean tug U.S. Army LT 137 as the Executive Officer/Navigator. He was at Corregidor & Mariveles Cove, Okinawa and Japan.
His wife Dorothy preceded him after being married 60 years and was his best friend and companion. He is survived by three sons: Donald of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., Douglas and his wife Dianne of Cheshire, CT., Martin Jr. and his wife Beth of Alachua, FL. Eight grandchildren: Douglas Jr., Jeffrey, Matthew, Michael, Christopher, Martin III, David and William. One step-grandson Shawn Christy. Four step-grandchildren: Shelly, Michael, Meghan and Matthew. Eight great grandchildren: Jacob, Joshua, Emily, Dahnielle, Logan, Bailey, Tyler and Maxx. Two great-great grandchildren: Hayden and Amelia.
He was a Certified Management Consultant and retired after thirty years as a partner of Rath & Strong, a consulting firm in Boston. During his career he received awards from the U.S. State Department for helping the German industry rebuild after WW II and helping the Turkish industry increase their national productivity. He was a Eucharistic Minister in the Archdiocese of Miami.
Arrangements – Funeral services for Mr. Doring will be held on Saturday August 25, 2018 with the funeral procession leaving the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street at 9:15 a.m. and proceeding to St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St, Cheshire, for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday evening, August 24nd, from 4 to 6 P.M.
