Fernando Marques

Naugatuck, CT Fernando S. Marques, 89, husband of the late Silvina Marques, died peacefully on July 8, 2017 at Glendale Center with his loving family at his side.

Fernando was born July 6, 1928 in Guarda, Portugal and came to the United States in 1973, settling in Naugatuck. He retired in 1993 from Heritage Village in Southbury and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Fernando was a gifted and creative man who loved his family and who enjoyed doing puzzles, especially Sudoku. He was a proud volunteer firefighter in Portugal and was a Portuguese Army Veteran.

Fernando leaves his daughter, Fernanda Santos and her husband Carlos; his son, Adelmar Marques; his grandsons, Daniel Santos, Adelmar Marques, Jr. and his wife Nicole and Mario Marques and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and his parents, Fernando was predeceased by two infant daughters; his grandson, Carlos Santos, Jr. and his brother, Jose Simao.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury. Everyone attending is asked to please go directly to church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor Fernando’s memory, contributions may be made to the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT 06708.
