Marion (Buckholz) Roche, age 93, of Hamden entered into rest on Wednesday, December 13, 2013 at her home. She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph E. Roche Sr. for 63 years until his passing in 2013. Marion was born on April 29, 1930 in New Haven, daughter of the late Ernest and Helen (Crosby) Buckholz.
Marion grew up on her family’s dairy farm in Orange, where she lived an idyllic farm life with her cherished younger sister Joan. She loved music and studied at the Connecticut Experimental Theater. Some of her many accomplishments included singing at Woolsley Hall, the Yale Bowl and the Shubert Theater. She was also a graduate of Larsen Junior College and worked as a secretary in West Haven.
She was a nurturing mother, and enjoyed sports and watching her children and grandchildren play baseball and hockey and making wonderful family memories during summer trips to Cape Cod.
She is the beloved mother of Thomas J. Roche of Hamden; Joseph Roche Jr. and his wife, Lynne of Wallingford; John L. Roche and his wife, Maureen of Wallingford; Robert P. Roche and his wife, Vera of Cheshire; and Barbara Oddie and her husband, John of Hamden. Marion also leaves her cherished 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; her sister, Joan Sullivan of North Haven; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Nicholas Bo Roche; and her great-granddaughter, Kacey Rose Mitchell.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire. A small graveside service for Marion will be private and at the convenience of her family. To leave online condolences for her family, please visit www.fordfh.com
