NORTHFIELD, CT - Marion Makepeace Loomis, died on May7, 2011 in St. Mary's Hospital hospice ward after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Marcy was born to John and Marion Makepeace on January 31, 1952 and was their only daughter. She will be remembered for her dry wit, her excellent work ethic, and her strong moral compass. Her brothers report that Marcy was one of the most giving persons that they had ever known.
After Marcy's husband died in his early thirties, she finished his construction jobs, built her own house, and returned to school for her BA and MA and began teaching Special Education and English at the Torrington High School. In her last days, her family was overwhelmed by the love, support and visitations that she received from students, administrators and teachers from Torrington High School.
Her success there also speaks for itself in the form of many letters and cards she received from her colleagues and students. One particular card from a troubled youth especially touched her. He wrote, "Dear Mrs. Loomis, if it hadn't been for you, I'd be in jail". She made a real difference for all of her students and worked very hard to keep her tough students out of trouble.
Throughout Marcy's life, her entire family and most of all her brothers really appreciated the fact that they could take all of their problems to her and she would be a wonderful sounding board for them.
Marcy is survived by her daughter, Rebecca of Northfield, CT; her brothers Tyler Makepeace of Colorado Springs, CO, David Makepeace of Livonia, NY, Richard Makepeace of Naugatuck, CT, Seth Makepeace of St. Ignatius, MT; as well as ten nieces and nephews.
