Waterbury- Marie Josephine Kunkel, 107, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2012 at The Village at East Farms.
Born on January 19, 1905 in Waterbury, she was the daughter of Lorenz and Emma (Schaffrath) Kunkel.
Miss Kunkel attended local Waterbury schools and graduated with a Master's Degree from Yale University. She was a teacher in the City Public Schools and was principal of Chase School for fifteen years prior to her retirement.
Marie was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Retired Teachers Association, the National Education Association, the Waterbury Administration Association, and the Connecticut Teachers Association.
She is survived by two nieces, Laurine K. Rogers and Nancy K. Boit, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Arrangements- Funeral Services for Miss Kunkel will be private. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions in Marie's name may be made to the Mattatuck Museum, 144 West Main Street, Waterbury, CT. 06702 or a charity of ones choice. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave, 06710 is assisting with the arrangements.
