BLOOMFIELD- Lydia Bond Shearer was born November 5, 1918 in Ilion, New York, daughter of the late William and Grace Callan Bond, sister of Elizabeth Bond Mackie.
She attended New York State College for Teachers and graduated in 1941 with a degree in English.
She married John Kennedy Shearer in 1943, who pre-deceased her in 2002. She and John resided in Waterbury, Connecticut where they raised their four children: Jean (Lexington, KY), Ellen (Scarborough, Ontario), Nancy (Rangeley, ME) and Greig (West Hartford, CT). She is also survived by four grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews and their families.
She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Waterbury for 50 years, as well as a dedicated volunteer in numerous capacities for the Waterbury YWCA and Mattatuck Museum. Lydia was an avid reader, gardener and lover of the outdoors; she spent many summers at the family camp in Oquossoc, Maine.
She has been a resident of Seabury Retirement Community since 2000.
Arrangements- A Memorial Service is planned for July 21, 2012 at St John's Episcopal Church, 16 Church Street, Waterbury CT, 06702 at 2 P.M. There are no calling hours. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave, 06710 is in charge of the arrangements.
