Joaquina Lucas

Spring, Texas - Joaquina Pinto Lucas, 96, passed away on November 22, 2021 in Spring, Texas surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Joao Lucas. She was born in Gralhos, Montalegre, Portugal on September 5, 1925 to the late Manuel and Teresa (Dias) Pinto. She immigrated to the US and resided in Naugatuck for nearly 50 years before moving to Texas to live with her daughter Teresa.

Joaquina’s greatest joy in life was being a mother and later welcoming her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and walking to stay fit. She was a seamstress at Waterbury Garment for over 25 years prior to her retirement.

Joaquina is survived by her children; Teresa Pinto Lucas Assuncao of Spring, TX and Antonio Pinto Lucas and his wife, Rose, of Naugatuck; her grandchildren: Lea Ann (Chris) Hogrefe, Debbie (Marc) Bruce, Susanne (Jason) Flatt, Danielle (Michael) Loschiavo, Jennifer (Thor III) Solberg, and Anthony (Carrie) Lucas; her great grandchildren: Jacob and Kelsey Hogrefe, Jacquelyn Bruce, Ian and Justice Flatt, Jeremy Loschiavo, Thor Solberg IV and Walker Solberg, and Ava and Nathan Lucas. She is survived by her brother, Francisco Pinto and his wife, Maria, and her sister-in-law, Emilia Pinto. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were so dear to her. In addition to her husband and parents, Joaquina was predeceased by her sons Adelino Pinto Lucas and infant Antonio Lucas; her great grandson Blake Greyson Bruce; and her siblings Jose Pinto, Joao (Pinto) Dias, Antonio Pinto, Maria (Pinto) Dias, Adelino Pinto and Joaquim Pinto.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 29, 2021 at 11:30 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury, CT 06706. Friends and family may call prior to Mass from 9:30-11:00 am at Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck, CT 06770. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck.
