Ann Lockwood

Elizabeth Ann Lockwood, beloved wife and best friend of Donald M. Lockwood died on May 28, 2023, at age 89.

Ann, as she was known to family and friends, was born on October 12, 1933, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and moved to Norwalk in 1947 with her family. In 1956, she married Don and lived for a time in Carlisle Pennsylvania, before moving back to Connecticut, living in both Ridgefield and Norwalk. In 2010, they moved to a retirement community in Niantic, Connecticut.

Ann worked for many years in the banking industry in which she held various positions, including office manager. Ann also became active in the Woman's Board of Norwalk Hospital and its thrift shop, Treasure House, an all-volunteer organization, all of whose profits go to the hospital. Ann was elected president of the Woman's Board in 1991 and became a member of the hospital's board of trustees. In that leadership role, she was instrumental in securing a pledge of a million dollars from her members, raised through special events at Treasure House, to build a nursing home in Norwalk. Ann's organizational abilities were called into play several times over the years as an adept and trusted caregiver for a particularly close friend and for several family members.

Ann enjoyed restoring and decorating the 1760 home in Norwalk where she and Don lived for thirty-five years, sailing Long Island Sound, and traveling, especially to Rockport, Maine.

Ann is survived by a brother, Edward, and her nieces Stacy Clark and Katie Kenny, along with several other nieces and nephews and their offspring throughout the country. Ann will be remembered for her quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, and devotion to Don.

A private celebration of life will be held this summer and the family asks that any charitable donations be made in Ann’s name to the East Lyme Public Library, 39 Society Road, Niantic, CT 06357.
