CHESHIRE – Linda Louise Adams Martin, 70, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at her home in Cheshire, CT. She was the wife of Dr. Luke M. Martin.
Mrs. Martin was born September 4, 1951, in Baltimore, MD., daughter of James F. and Betty Jane (Sparks) Adams.
She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974, earning a B.A. with honors in English and an M.S. in Education. Before that, she graduated in 1969, with honors from Highland Falls High School in West Point, NY. Mrs. Martin taught high school English in PA, for four years, before spending time studying law at both Dickinson and Villanova Law Schools. She subsequently left law school in order to pursue the role of her life as a full-time mother of four. After raising her children, Mrs. Martin worked at St. Bridget School in Cheshire.
Mrs. Martin enjoyed a passion for reading, exercising, and the outdoors, including walks along the Farmington Canal, gardening, swimming, and relaxing at the beach. She spent many years teaching swim lessons and coaching young children, and was a volunteer in the many sports, clubs, organizations, and activities of her own children.
In addition to her husband of 49 years, Mrs. Martin leaves behind her mother Betty Jane Adams of Charlottesville, VA, her two daughters Kathleen Adams Greene (Edward) of Weston, CT, Sarah Lyons Keaney (Matthew, PhD) of New Haven, CT and her two sons, Luke Carson Martin (Larissa) of Falls Church, VA and Thomas Carroll Martin (Meghan) of Fairfax, VA.
She also leaves behind her 8 grandchildren, Owen Douglas and Arlo James Greene, Sean Francis and Anna Rowan Keaney, Ella Irena and Madelyn Rosemary Martin, Ryan Patrick and James Thomas Martin.
She is also survived by her four sisters Sally Saxton (James W. Esq.) of Lititz, PA., Helen Elizabeth (Beth) McGrath (Ray) of Crozet, VA, Dr. Mary Jo Hill (James “Monty”) of Williamsburg, VA, and Megan Torres (Ivan, PhD) of Port Moody, British Columbia.
Linda was predeceased by her father James F. Adams of Charlottesville, VA.
Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Bridget of Sweden Parish / St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire, CT. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery, 55 Altair Ave., Thomaston, CT. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 10th from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in her name, may be made to the Flynn Foundation to help fund a fellowship program for oncology nurses this summer at Hartford Healthcare.
