Dorothy Leonard

Naugatuck, CT Dorothy G. Leonard, 95, the widow of Eugene M. Leonard, Sr., died peacefully on April 30, 2022 at Glendale Center surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy was born February 14, 1927 in Yonkers, NY daughter of the late Robert J. and Florence (Wagner) Sweeney. Dorothy lived in Naugatuck most of her life and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Eugene M. Leonard, Jr. and his wife Melissa; her daughters, Kathleen Sullivan and her husband John and Maureen Kaminski and her husband Tom; her 9 beloved grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Rapp.

The family would like to thank the staff at Glendale Center, especially Ellie, Rachel, Nicole, Kristen and all of Dorothy’s aids; and Seasons Hospice, especially Nurse Sarah Watts and Chaplain Tim for all of their care and comfort.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Everyone attending is asked to please meet at church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours are Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor Dorothy’s memory, donations are requested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
