WATERBURY - Leo Goldberg, age 98, died Thursday, May 3, 2018 at his home. He was the husband of Ethel (Leopold) Goldberg.
Leo was born January 25, 1919 in New York, NY, the son of the late Max and Mary (Goralnick) Goldberg. He was a WWII veteran serving his country in the U.S. Army. Raised in New York City, Leo came to Waterbury in his early 20s. He was married in 1946 and throughout his life worked in various industries, including the Veteran's Administration; Albian Bike and Lock; the Bristol Hobby Shop and New England Fasteners. Later in life, he served his community as Cemetery Sexton, uniting the various cemeteries under the direction of the Jewish Federation of Western CT, a job he held until the age of 92.
Besides his wife of 72 years, Leo is survived by his son Richard and his wife Roanne of Arlington, Massachusetts; his daughter Brina Goldberg of Waterbury; his daughter Joan Murdock of Corvalis, Oregon; and his grandsons Jed Murdock of Seattle, Washington and Jon Murdock-Claire of Corvalis, Oregon.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 12 pm at B'Nai Israel Temple, 444 Main St. North, Southbury, CT. After the service the family will be receiving friends in the social hall. Shiva observance will be held 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at B'Nai Israel Temple. Burial with Military Honors will be held at the convenience of the family in Melchizedek Cemetery.
