Lawrence H. Engelman, age 68, of Oxford passed away unexpectedly with his beloved wife by his side on Saturday, October 1, 2022. He was the loving husband of Deyanira (Sanchez) Engelman for over 26 years. Lawrence was born on May 31, 1954 in Waterbury, son of the late Morton and Marilyn (Gross) Engelman.
Larry was raised in Middlebury and attended The Gunnery for high school. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Duke University, and his law degrees cum laude including an LLM in Estate Planning from Miami University. Larry joined his father at Engelman and Engelman in 1982, and continued the family practice after the passing of his father in 1998. Larry enjoyed researching and planning many memorable trips for his family. Together they travelled to many different countries, experiencing a wealth of art and culture. Above all, was Larry’s love of being father to Jacob, his world and his pride.
In addition to his wife, Deyanira, Larry is survived by his son Jacob Engelman of Oxford; his brother, Donald Engelman and his wife, Katie of Fresno, CA; his niece, Rachael Engelman; and his nephews, Conor Engelman and Cooper Engelman. Larry was active in the community, including on the Board of the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, on committees of the Connecticut Bar Association, and coordinated the Traurig Scholarship Trust at B’nai Israel.
Friends and family are invited to attend his funeral services on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 11AM at the B’Nai Israel Synagoge, 444 Main Street North, Southbury, CT 06488. Burial will follow in Melchizedek Cemetery, Plank Road, Waterbury. Shiva will be held at B’nai Israel on Thursday, October 6th at 7PM. Giving back meant so much to Larry, in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either one of his preferred charities; Project Hope by visiting www.projecthope.org; to Connecticut Food Bank at www.ctfoodbank.org; to Boys Town, www.boystown.org; or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, www.nationalmssociety.org.
