Dorothy Lacasse

NAUGATUCK — Dorothy P. (Jepson) LaCasse, 86, formerly of 74 Gorman St., passed away on Friday, July 23, 2010, at the Jewish Home in New Haven after a brief illness. She was the widow of Albert J. LaCasse.

Mrs. LaCasse was born on March 29, 1924, in Naugatuck, a daughter of the late Jesse P. and Florence (Richmond) Jepson. She was a life member and chaplain for 15 years of the VFW 1946 Auxiliary, and she belonged to American Legion Post 17 where she was a chaplain for two years. She was past president and chosen Woman of the Year and also chosen as Mother of the Year by the Eagles Aerie No. 640. She also belonged to the Ever Green Chapter, the Senior Women's Friendship Club and AARP 1875. She was a communicant of St. Francis Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Verrier and her husband, Alan, of Wallingford; two sons, Robert W. Newman and his wife, Judy, of Florida and Gary P. Newman and his fiancee, Joan Longo, of Naugatuck; two stepsons, Albert LaCasse of Waltham, Mass., and Robert LaCasse of Salem, N.H.; one stepdaughter, Barbara Fox of Lawrence, Mass.; six grandchildren, Kevin Newman of Waterbury, Erica Verrier of the Netherlands, Nichole Newman of Waterbury, Alan Verrier of Waterbury, Christina Sortino of Prospect and Gary Newman of Waterbury; and one great-grandchild, Cooper Newman.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck, to St. Francis of Assisi Church for a Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
