CHESHIRE – Kyum S. Pyun, M.D. 92, died Friday, January 4, 2025, at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden. He was the husband of Gail (Dix) Pyun.

Dr. Pyun was born in Korea on September 15, 1932, son of the late Dr. Ki Sup Pyun and Bong-Hyok Kim. He graduated from Yonsei University, Yonsei University College of Medicine and performed his residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine serving as Chief Resident in his final year. He retired from Mid-State Medical Center where he served for 34 years, 26 of which as Director of Pathology and Director of Laboratories. He serves as a Member of the Board of Governors. Dr. Pyun served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Pathology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and as Assistant Clinical Professor of Pathology and Laboratory at University of Connecticut Health Center. Dr. Pyun is affiliated with numerous professional associations and has been awarded several Physician Recognition Awards. He was Licensed in CT, NY, and Pennsylvania. Throughout the years he was an avid tennis player, jogger, reader, self-learner, and lover of classical music.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, Dr. Pyun leaves behind his son Christopher, his daughter Shana, son in-law Steven, granddaughter Sophia, grandson Damon and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by a brother, Dr. Hang-Sik Byun and was predeceased by a brother Dr. Tai-Sik Byun.

Arrangements: – Services for Dr. Pyun are private and will be held at the discretion of his family. There are no calling hours and the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements.
