Kok Gin Lee

Cheshire - Kok Gin Lee, 94, died on Feb 23, 2023, surrounded by her family in Cheshire. 

She was born on Dec 13, 1928, in Guangdong, China, and lived through WWII as a teenager.  Kok was married in 1947, moved to Hong Kong in 1948, and gave birth to her son in 1949.  She raised her son by herself when her husband returned to the U.S. to work as a chef at the Far East Restaurant in New Haven.  Despite being a homemaker and lacking formal education, Kok learned to drive in her 20s, a rare accomplishment for a woman in Hong Kong at the time.  She continued driving in the United States when she immigrated in 1966 and was reunited with her husband.

A loving mother and spouse, Kok thrived in her life in Hamden where she had a robust community of family and friends.  Like her husband, Kok was also an exceptional cook as well as an avid gardener of many Chinese vegetables.  She drove well into her 60s where she would frequently visit friends around town.

Kok was preceded in death by her husband, Suey-Hing Lee, and is survived by her son, Edward Lee, daughter-in-law Karen Lee, and grandchildren Betty Lee, Brian Lee and wife Faith Chu, and Jeffrey Lee.

Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 10 am at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamden.  A period of visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 9 am until the start of the service.
