PROSPECT — Mr. John J. Knapp Sr., age 78, of Prospect, died Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Waterbury Hospital. He was the widower of Margaret A. (Dorn) Knapp.
Mr. Knapp was born in Waterbury on July 1, 1933, son of the late Joseph and Ann (Burke) Knapp. He was retired from Murtha Trucking where he worked as a truck driver for many years, and also worked at Botticello Trucking. He was a communicant of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church in Prospect. Mr. Knapp was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Korean War.
Mr. Knapp is survived by a daughter, Joanne Knapp of Prospect; four sons, John J. Knapp Jr. of Morgan City, La., David and Joyce Knapp of Naugatuck, Brian and Jeanna Knapp of Hudson, N.H., and Kevin Knapp and Richard Bieu of Bristol; six grandchildren, Barbara, John, Michael, Ryan, Brianna and Cody; and seven great-grandchildren, Andrew, Tyler, Kyleigh, Adam, Shelby, Colin and Jacoby.
A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Family and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, Prospect, on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m.
