MIDDLEBURY- Kenneth R. Wiser, 85, passed away peacefully Thursday March 22, 2018 after a short stay at the Lutheran Home in Southbury. He was the husband of Jane W. Wiser whom he was married to for 63 years.
Mr. Wiser was born March 11, 1933 in Fairfield son of the late Joseph F. and Rose (Ritzo) Wiser. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph and sister Virginia, as well as his daughter Kathleen J Wiser.
Kenneth was a graduate of the University of Bridgeport, Arnold College Division with a Master’s in Physical Education. He was a member of the Middlebury Congregational Church since 1956, where he was a Deacon under both Rev. Charles Luckey, and Rev. Dennis Calhoun. He also started and advised the Explorer Post #6, Committeeman for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and was a Phys Ed teacher and coached Baseball and Basketball for 23 years in the Middlebury school system. In 1978, he left teaching and was employed at Southbury Training School for 11 years before retiring in 1989.
Besides his wife, Mr. Wiser is survived by his three sons David Wiser of Richmond, TX, Bruce Wiser of Higganum; and Kevin Wiser and his wife Janet of Southbury; seven grandchildren Rob and his wife Kalin, Carole-Marie, Jennifer Ramirez and her husband Angel, Matthew Wiser and his wife Alison, Lauren Sirois and her husband Andrew, Brian, and Kate; eight great grandchildren Jaelyn, Tessa, Hallie, Olivia, Colton, Caleb, Lavinia, and Marcellus.
A service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, April 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Middlebury Congregational Church, 1242 Whittemore Rd, Middlebury, CT 06762 followed by refreshments at the church. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St, 06770 is assisting the family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations in Kenneth’s memory may be made to the Greater Waterbury Campership Fund, c/o the Republican-American, P.O. Box 2090, Waterbury, CT 06722 or the Charles P. Luckey Jr Memorial Scholarship.
