Naugatuck, CT Walter Ross Kean, 53, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at home.

Walter was born on March 14, 1963 in Waterbury, the beloved son of Shirley (Scott) (Kean) Nolan and the late Walter Kean. He was a 1981 graduate of Naugatuck High School and he was a proud United States Navy Veteran.

Besides his mother, he leaves his brother, Brian (Chrissy) Nolan; his stepbrothers, Dan, Sean (Cyndi) and Tim Nolan; and his stepsister, Christine (Tom) Yarrington. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his stepfather Andrew and stepsister Maureen.

Walter was a die-hard Patriots and Red Sox Fan, win or lose. He loved music lyrics, especially classic rock and he loved playing chess. Walter valued the many deep friendships he held during his life, from naval members, veterans and West Haven Veterans Hospital patients and employees. The great friendships were those of various AA Chapters and all his friends at Middletown NA, especially Mark, Mike and Karlene.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at 11:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Burial will follow in CT State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. Friends and family may call from 9:00 to 10:30 am on Tuesday at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble Tuesday at 10:00am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to St. Francis-St. Hedwig’s School, 294 Church Street, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
