Kathleen Wasilewski, of Southbury, passed away peacefully at the Beacon Brook Health Center in Naugatuck, on March 5, 2025, at the age of 77. Kathleen was the wife of the late Anthony Wasilewski, who was the love of her life. Born June 6, 1947, in Derby, CT, to the late John and Helen (Ksiazak) Kraus, Kathleen enjoyed a fulfilling life dedicated to caring for others. She had nursed her beloved Anthony back to health following a stroke many years ago. She became a registered nurse and graduated from Southern Connecticut State University, where she also earned two masters degrees. Kathleen made a significant impact in her field, working at Bridgeport Hospital and Saint Vincent’s Medical Center, as well as Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Later in her career, she transitioned into an administrative role, continuing her commitment to healthcare.
Kathleen was known for her warmth, compassion, and spirited personality. She loved her family deeply and is survived by her sons Dean (Kathryn Pellagrino) and Jason (Patricia) Wasilewski, her daughter, Stephanie Hein (Nathan), her stepchildren Gregg Parr and Holly Wasilewski. She also leaves behind her cherished siblings Eileen O’Leary (the late Jack), Janice Kraus, and Shane (Nancy) Kraus. Kathleen leaves behind as well her grandchildren Alexandra, Kayla, Logan, Noah, Madison, and Vincent.
During her childhood in Derby, she was a krakowiak dancer with a youth group at the Polish Club. She would wear the traditional Polish costume – white dress with colorful ribbons, and a be-ribboned wreath on her head. With a love for fine embroidery and sewing, she made flannel nightgowns and pajama pants for family members. She enjoyed travel to Greece, France, Italy, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, and China as well as a good glass of wine, white sand beaches, and palm trees. She cherished the comfort and companionship of her beloved dog Sweetie, as well as many other rescue dogs over the years. Kathleen treasured life’s simple pleasures.
Family and friends may gather at the Buckmiller Ford Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue in Naugatuck on Thursday March 20, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. with a service in celebration of Kathleen’s life beginning at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be held privately.
