Naugatuck - Kathleen “Kathie” Crabtree, 61, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Yale New Haven‘s Smilow Cancer Hospital after battling ovarian cancer. She was the longtime companion of Herman Kohl.
Kathie was born December 18, 1962, in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Dorsey and Catherine (Duffy) Garrett. She was a longtime Naugatuck resident where she was a member of the Polish American Club as well as the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 640, serving as Trustee. She was a Registered Nurse, specializing in oncology before working at the Glendale Center.
Besides Herman, she is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Travis and her husband, Lamar; her siblings Dorsey Garrett and his wife Beth, and Karen Hummel and her husband, Lloyd; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother David Garrett.
Lovingly and jokingly dubbed as “The Mayor of Naugatuck” by her family, Kathie committed herself to being part of the community through organizing benefits and helping with various events such as children’s Christmas parties through the Polish American Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 640. Throughout her career as a Registered Nurse at Glendale, Kathie would get stopped everywhere she went by former patients and their families to thank her for her tender care. Kathie absolutely loved Naugatuck and the people here.
When Kathie wasn’t busy helping others, she loved traveling the world. From Mexico to Italy to Germany, her love of experiencing something new brought her to various countries. Her favorite place was Belize, where she would enjoy her days soaking up the sun, relaxing on the beach, and thanking God for such a beautiful life.
Arrangements – Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 11th from 5 to 8 pm at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck.
